Limousins sell to 6,800gns at Melton Mowbray

THE Limousin Society’s spring sale at Melton Mowbray Market in association with the East Midlands Limousin Cattle Breeders Club saw bulls sell to 6,800gns.

Limousins sell to 6,800gns at Melton Mowbray

Cows and calves sold to 3,200gns for Messrs Mash with Brockhurst Lush, a 2015-born cow by Wilodge Tonka with its bull calf, Brockhurst Sawyer, which sold to J. Simpson, Bakewell.

 In-calf cows topped at 3,800gns for Pitcher Farms, Friskney, with the 2015-born cow, Cockleshell Littlestar, by Mereside Hannibal and due this spring to Greensons Nickel, which was bought by Messrs Gilleard.

The sale of commercial cattle saw pure-bred Limousin bulls from H. G. Sharman and Son, Bedfordshire, sell to £5,200 and £4,700.

Show potential animals from D. A. Davies, Rugby, topped £2,500 for a red Limousin-sired heifer with a black 11-month-old Limousin sired bullock from the same home at £1,700.


Stores from R. A. Douglas, Kent, sold to £1,200 for Limousin cross British Blue steers and 12-month-old Limousin heifers from Strattons Farms, Newbury, topped at £1,180.

Averages - pedigree Limousins - bulls, £4,572.75; cows and calves, £2,577.75; heifers, £1,963.50; in-calf cows, £2,231.25.
