About us

Crisis is the national charity for homeless people. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.

Crisis Skylight South Yorkshire are a dynamic innovative team that go the extra mile to support people out of their homelessness for good. Our experienced and diverse team work closely to provide a wraparound service that is personally tailored to individual needs; both one to one support and classes to meet any learning needs that are required. We are currently looking for a Horticulture Tutor to deliver practical skills sessions across South Yorkshire on an outreach basis.

About the role

As Horticulture Tutor (Parental Leave Cover), you will plan and deliver a programme of activities and classes that will enable service users to develop their gardening and related outdoor/horticultural skills, as well as confidence, self-esteem and interpersonal skills.
We are looking for experience in areas such as garden maintenance, sowing and growing plants and other facets of horticulture and will recognise the health and well-being benefits that these activities promote. The successful candidate will work creatively to pass on their skills and experience to vulnerable individuals to support them with their practical life skills as part of their journey out of homelessness.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have relevant experience and qualifications in both horticulture and teaching and be flexible and innovative about ways of delivering these subjects on an outreach basis.
You will have experience of delivering to, and engaging, vulnerable and hard to reach individuals/groups. Experience of delivering programmes in schools, colleges or with community groups would be beneficial.
You will have the capacity to work both independently and as part of the wider team and possess essential communication skills to move people through their journey out of homelessness.

Successful candidate must hold a current driving licence and have access to own vehicle and be willing to travel across South Yorkshire.

Benefits

As a member of the team you will have access to a wide range of employee benefits including:

Interest free loans to purchase a train season ticket or a bike or for a deposit to secure a tenancy
Mandatory pension scheme, with an employer contribution of 8.5%
25 days annual leave which increases with service to 28 days

Alongside our excellent staff benefits, we will support your ongoing development to build your skills, experience and career.
