A new female average of £3,93 was set at the inaugural Hereford Cattle Society spring parade and sale at Shrewsbury which was supported by Íæż½ã½ã and had a 95 per cent clearance rate.

Topping the heifer trade at 5,200gns was Glenvale 1 Polly 721 from T.G., E.I. and E.N. Thorne, Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire.  April 2019-born, this Netherhall 1 OZ Daffy M024 daughter sold served to Vexour 1 Palmer, to H.S. and I Griffiths and Partners, St Davids.
The same buyers also paid 4,600gns for Glenvale 1 Polly 712, served by Fisher 1 Rancher R483 from the same home.

Also realising 4,600gns was Dendor 1 Keepsake 22 from D.E., E.D. and A.L. Jones, Caersws, Powys. The March 2019-born daughter of Bakgard 1 Keno 1178 which stood Royal Welsh supreme champion in 2017, sold in-calf to Dendor 1 Moonshine to J. Porter, Bridgewater, Somerset.

Vicky Weller, Porton, Newport sold 12-month-old Porton House 1 Sansa at 4,150gns. By Moralee 1 Rosco KS R9 out of Porton House 1 Poppy, it was bought by J.L. Forsey, Bridport, Dorset.

Next at 4,100gns  was April 2020-born Coley 1 Mynte 531 by Moeskaer Vegas 1451 from Heather Whittaker, Halifax, which was knocked down to W. Milner, Much Wenlock, Shropshire.  

Bulls sold to 7,200gns with the top bid made by Martin Jenkins,  for 24-month-old Barwise 1 Samson MO 0835 from Carolyn Fletcher, Appleby-in-Westmorland, and will join the Gloucestershire-based Appleridge herd. Qualifying as a superior carcase sire, this Moeskaer Online 1444 son has a terminal sire and self-replacing indexes in the top 1 per cent, and lies in the top 5 per cent for growth, eye muscle and retail beef yield. It is out of Barwise 1 Grace K2, the female line which produced the 2018 UK Hereford sire of the year Barwise 1 Lancer.

Haven Tarzan, the first son of the 2018 National Show champion, Mara President to be offered for sale and out of Haven Louisa 65, sold for 6,800gns. Consigned by E.L. Lewis and son, Dilwyn, Herefordshire,  it sold to Francis Elmore, Essmore Herefords, Co Louth, Ireland.  

Making the journey south from Glasgow, George and Sophie Harvey sold 16-month-old Harveybros 1 Thomas-The-Tank by Normanton 1 Laertes at 6,400gns to J.L. Forsey, Bridport.

John and William McMordie, Co Down, sold 18-month-old Solpoll 1 Trooper by Solpoll 1 Perfection for 6,200gns to H.A. Colburn, Gloucestershire.   

At the same money was Barwise 1 Tamerlane BN 108, a 21-monht-old son of Barwise 1 Nabucco from Ms Fletcher which went to G. and A. Speed, Carhampton, Devon.
In the for sale only female section top price was 2,35ogns for 13-month-old Black Hall 3 Joy from Jenny Pudge, Kings Pyon, which is a British Polled Hereford and was bought by M.A. Quiney and S.M. Spears, Moretonhampstead.

Averages: 14 show heifers, £3,934; 31 bulls, £4,027; 7 for sale only females, £1,493.
