But despite past efforts to showcase the industry for its diverse job offerings, people still do not think of agriculture when it comes to careers.

Ìý

We have one of the most technically advanced sectors in the world, and the list of jobs our industry can offer is endless.

Ìý

So, here are six reasons farming could be the perfect career for you.

reasons

  1. Animals – if you love anything to do with animals, look no further than farming. You do not have to be out in a field, you could work as a vet or for a society working towards preserving breeds. The possibilities are endless.
  2. Outdoors – Although there are careers indoors, farming allows you to work outside in the beautiful British countryside. Name a better office than the rolling hills and iconic landscape of the UK?
  3. Science and technology – love science? Love the latest apps and gadgets? From agronomy and food science to the latest machinery advancements, there are a whole host of jobs that offer scientifically minded people rewarding careers.
  4. Feeding the nation – there is the bigger picture to think of here. If you work in farming, you are playing a key role in putting food on the plates of people across the country, three times a day.
  5. People – farming can, of course, be an isolating profession but, there are plenty of opportunities to meet the fantastic network of people who make up the fabric of agriculture, all of whom are specialists in their areas. If you want to work in an industry full of diverse and talented people, farming is certainly the place to be.
  6. Making your mark – if you are looking to set up your own business, farming could provide you with the opportunity. People are increasingly interested in provenance so perhaps starting up your own artisan field to fork business could be for you. Or, on the flip side, there are chances in sectors such as PR and marketing.
  7. Climate change – UK farmers are certainly part of the solution when it comes to climate change. If you want to be part of an industry that is helping to mitigate climate change and working towards net zero, this is the industry for you.
