Jersey reigns dairy supreme at Royal Welsh Show

This was Windyridge Tequila Diamond by Towevue Prime Tequila out of Shellen Connection Diamond from Emma and Philip Manning Shrewsbury. The seventh calver which is giving 38kg daily was also breed champion at the show in 2018 and breed champion at Dairy Day the same year and had not been shown since.

Mr Logan said: "My champion is an absolutely outstanding example of the Jersey breed. She has a tremendous dairy frame and moves so well and has a fantastic udder which would be a credit to a fourth calver, never mind a seventh calver. She is what we should all be aspiring to produce."

In reserve was the Holstein champion, Eedy Crushabull Acclaim, a second calver from Brian and Michael Yates, Castle Douglas. The daughter of Oh-River-Syc out of Eedy Beemer Acclaim calved in January and is currently giving 50kg daily. Having been bought from breeders, Robert and Jason Helen, Southern Ireland, last year, it has already been reserve inter-breed champion at Dairy Expo and inter-breed champion at the Royal Highland Show this season.

Iwan Morgan, Carmathen, took the reserve Jersey championship with Erie Tequilabay Grove, a second calver by Tequila and whose dam, Erie Baywatch Grove, is a previous Royal Welsh breed champion.

Standing reserve Holstein was Knowlesmere Miss Brandysnap, a Denmire Mesdoor daughter from Richard and Bethan Thomas, Carmarthen. The 2016-born sixth calver which is classified EX96, was a winner at the show last year and also inter-breed champion at the Welsh Dairy Show.

St Michael Nelgor Vogue 4, a fifth calver from Kevin Thomas, Carmarthen, claimed the Brown Swiss championship. By Alders Wagon Nelgor out of St Michael Payssli Vogue 3, it was bought from breeder, David Burden, as a calf.

Huw and Sian Gibbon, Carmarthenshire, took reserve with 2019-born Infinity Sissy, a daughter of Brown Heaven Famous.
