Knap Grumpy tops Texel trade at 170,000gns

It was Robert Cockburn’s Knap flock, Crieff, which led a flying trade at the Scottish National Texel Sale, Lanark.

Robert Cockburn took the top bid of 170,000gns for Knap Grumpy and also sold its full ET brother, Knap General Lee at 100,000gns to average £60,060 for five lambs sold.

The sale topper was a son of 9,000gns Haddo Falcon out of Knap Daisy Duke, a Sportsmans Cannon Ball daughter which was overall champion at the Textravaganza national show in 2021. It sold to Charlie Boden and family for the Sportsmans flock, Stockport, who were also the buyers, at 100,000gns of its ET brother, Knap General Lee.

The sale saw 20 lambs make 10,000gns or more, with a record sale average of £5,311.25 and a 79 per cent clearance.

There was a second 100,000gns call, this time for the pre-sale show champion, Strathbogie Gypsy King from Jim Innes, Huntly. This son of 28,000gns Auldhouseburn Fancy Pants out of a dam by Milnbank Dance Monkey had been reserve overall champion at this year's Royal Highland Show.
It sold to Northern Ireland to Johnny Cubitt, Ballymena, with equal shares also taken by the pre-sale judge Richard Henderson for the Ballynahone flock, Alistair Gault, Forkins and Roger Strawbridge, Tamnamoney.

Robert Cockburn then paid 65,000gns for Teiglum Goliath, a son of the 7500gns Forkins Fancy is out of a dam by Wydden Ding Dong  and with a top 25 per cent terminal index from Andrew Clark, Carluke.

A pair then followed at 42,000gns, with the first being Auldhouseburn Ghost by Haymount Fann Dabi Dozi from Alan Blackwood, Muirkirk, which was knocked down to Eammon Vaughan, for the Partridge Nest flock, Staffordshire.

The second to make 42,000gns was Ettrick Grey Goose, a son of Sadlerhead Fury from Gordon Gray, Selkirk. It sold, with an index in the top 5 per cent for the breed, to Keith, Alan and Roy Campbell, Cowal and Nick Legge, Thornbury, with Gordon Gray retaining a third share.

Alan Blackwood then took 36,000gns for another in his pen, Auldhousenburn Gazza also by Haymount Fan Dabi Dozi which sold to Mark Priestley, Seaforde, Kenny Pratt, Hilltop and Robert Cockburn.

Then came a brace at 30,000gns. The first of these being the reserve overall champion from the pre-sale show, Clarks Gray Goose from Dye and Elizabeth Clark, Carluke. The son of Allanfauld Frisky Galore sold in a two-way split to Gordon Gray and Procters Farm, Wennington.

The other to sell at 30,000gns was Hilltop Golden Eye by Auldhouseburn Fancy Pants from Kenny Pratt, Aberdeen,  which was taken by Barry Farrell for the Oberstown flock, Eire.

And a third 30,000gns bid was made for Clanfield Golden, a son of the 2022 Lanark topping 160,000gns Rhaeadr First Choice is out of a dam by the 100,000gns Auldhouseburn Expression from James Theyer.  It was the pick of three north of Scotland flocks, David McKerrow and family, Uppermill, Jemma Green, Corskie and Robbie Wilson, Milnbank.
