A new report published by The Wales Federation of Young Íæż½ã½ã Clubs (YFCs) has shown the importance of clubs, with members dedicating 1.1 million hours of their time each year to support their clubs, counties and rural communities.
Young farmers
The report highlighted four key areas in which YFCs have an impact on young people living in rural Wales including Welsh language, skills and employability, rural sustainability and health and well-being.
Wales YFCs have almost 6,000 young people aged between 10 and 28 years currently members of the organisation.
Rural community
Endaf Griffiths is a Wales YFC senior member for this year and said YFC not only delivered ‘invaluable opportunities and experiences' to young people, but it also draws in the wider community, adding that in many rural areas, the Young Íæż½ã½ã' Club was the ‘backbone of the community.'
She said at her local YFC in Ceredigion, young farmers feel that it is ‘their duty' to keep the community going, adding they were ‘proud to do so'.
Welsh language
"The Welsh language and culture is also of great value to us. Pontsiân YFC, which has around 60 members, conducts all its activities through the medium of Welsh," she said.
"I am not a farmer myself, but what is great about the YFC is that it has a little bit of everything for everyone. From stock-judging to cooking, from rugby to fencing, and from public speaking to travelling the world, the organisation has a lot to offer."
