
Bonnykelly Upperclass
The pedigree bull section at the Royal Northern Spring show and sale at Thainstone topped at 16,000gns for the champion Charolais bull, Bonnykelly Upperclass, a May 2023-born bull from R. Leggat, New Pitsligo, which sold to J.C. McIntyre, Echt.
The overall champion was the Limousin champion, 22-month-old Harestone Ujeanluc, a son of Kersknowe Jake from R. and N. Barclay, Banchory. It sold for 9,000gns to B.T. Kitson, Hutton Rudby.

The second top price of 13,000gns was for Tonley Usher, a May 2023-born Charollais bull from N.A. Wattie, Alford, which was knocked down to B. Mackie and Sons, Huntly.
Simmental bulls topped at 10,000gns, a centre breed record, for Coltfield Principal, an April 2023-born son of Wolfstar Loose Cannon from Cameron and James MacIver, Kinloss, which went home with G. McConnach, Drumneachie, Aboyne.

The Simmental champion was 22-month-old Backmuir Pacific from Reece and Andrew Simmers, Keith, which made 8,000gns to J. and J. Henderson, Dingwall.
Three bulls sold for 9,000gns. The first was a Charolais, Bonnykelly Uppermost by Kersknowe Jake from Messrs Legget, which sold to Gordon Watson, Alford.
Next was Tonley Umpire, the reserve champion Charolais from Messrs Wattie, which went to C. and G. Tomson, Midmar.

The final bull at 9,000gns was the Simmental reserve champion, Islavale Pizza from W.S. Stronach, Keith, which was knocked down to J.P. Clark, Strathpeffer.
Aberdeen-Angus bulls sold to 8,500gns for January 2023-born Ballindalloch Fernando by Rosemead January from Ballindalloch Home Farms, Ballindalloch Castle, which sold to Messrs Rennie, Guthrie.
Top price in the any other breed section was 4,000gns for Corrichie Tate, a 23-month-old Salers from J.C. McIntyre, Westhill, which sold to Messrs McKenzie, Fortrose.
J. Penny and Sons, Shannas, Peterhead, sold four Limousin females topping at 3,000gns three times to H. and R. Davidson, Keith, D.W. Youngson, Stuartfield, and A.R. Ironside, Gamrie.

Exhibition cattle sell to £5,400
The Robertson family, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry, dominated the sale of exhibition cattle claiming the top price of £5,400 with the pre-sale show champion, an April 2024-born 448kg Limousin cross heifer by Sarkley Roscoe, which sold to B. T. Kitson, Hutton Rudby, North Yorkshire.

The reserve champion from the same home was a May 2024-born 428kg Limousin cross bullock which made £3,400 to J.W.K. Paterson, Stranraer.

The second top price of £5,000 was for an April 20204-born 462kg Limousin cross heifer by Carnew Millreef, again from the Robertson family, which also sold to Messrs Kitson.
A 446kg March 2024-born Limousin cross heifer by Red Driver Powerful from Tony and Sophie Weir, Lhabryde, sold for £4,500 to R. McKinnell and Sons, Newton Stewart.
Messrs Kitson also paid £3,800 for an April 2024-born 403kg Limousin heifer from Kris Sutherland, Latheron.
Reserve champion bullock
The reserve champion bullock a 425kg Limousin bullock by Carnew Millreef from the Robertson family, made £3,700 to D. Blair and Son, Newport on Tay.
A 502kg Limousin cross heifer from Fergus and Bruce Forbes, Nairn, sold for £3,500 to Messrs Paterson.
In the unhaltered section, a February 2023-born 517kg Limousin heifer from Blair Dufton, Huntley, went on to sell for £3,200 to Messrs Kitson.
Selling for £3,000 apiece were a 423kg Limousin cross heifer from the Robertson family and a 410kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Sutherland, both going to Messrs Blair and Son.
Averages: 14 heifers, £7.36/kg (+£2.18/kg on 2024); 6 bullocks, £6.18/kg (+£2.11/kg); overall, 36.99/kg (£3,087.50/head).
