Police have arrested a man in Northamptonshire who reportedly made a four hour journey to steal a GPS unit from a farm in North Cumbria.

Officers from Cumbria said a 34-year-old man from Daventry by Lincolnshire Police had been arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft after a GPS tractor unit was taken from a farm in Cumbria on October 10.

Police confirmed the man had been released on conditional bail.

Superintendent Andy Huddleston, head of the National Rural Crime Unit, praised the efforts of officers involved in the case as as part of Operation Lantern - which aims to prevent rural crime across the country.
