The Íæż½ã½ã supported show and sale of Salers at Castle Douglas topped at 8,000gns for the intermediate champion, Rednock Salvador, a March 2022-born son of Baron out of Rednock Peru from Gill and Malcom Pye, Rednock Estate, Stirling. Earlier in the year it had been male champion at the Royal Highland Show. The buyers were Malcolm and Kyle Fleming, Magherafelt, Northern Ireland.
Standing reserve senior champion from Judith and Patrick Boyd, Isle of Tiree, was Drumaglea R-Tic, a September-2021 Baron son which sold to I. and J. Adams, Stranraer, for 4,800gns.
Making the same price and from the same home was Drumaglea Stan, a Halley son out of Drumaglea Corinne which sold to the McConchie Partnership, Gatehouse of Fleet.
The other bull to sell for 4,800gns was Lisnamaul Rio from P.J. Maginn and Sons, Downpatrick, which had been male champion at the 2023 Balmoral Show which went home with K.C. Heard and Son, Okehampton.
Male and reserve overall champion was April 2022-born Bacardi Superman by Seamore Nitro from Roy and Adam Crockett, Selkirk, which was inter-breed champion at Northumberland County and breed champion at the Great Yorkshire Show this year. It sold for 4,500gns to James Morton, Melrose.
The reserve intermediate champion from Fred and Bryn Robinson, Church Preen, Shropshire, was February 2022-born Preenbank Samson by Preenbank Oggy-Oggy. It was knocked down to N. and D. Austin, Gatehouse of Fleet, for 4,500gns.
Making the same money was the reserve intermediate champion, April 2022-born Marwood Spartan by Murphy consigned by R.A. and J. Blyth, Hartlepool, to the Austion family, Gatehouse of Fleet.
The Livesey Farming partnership, Melrose, sold Cleuchhead Saracen, an April 2022-born Noble son, for 4,500gns to G. Ritchie and Sons, Perth.
Claiming the female and overall championship and selling for the joint top female price of the year was Jedforest Roxy, a March 2021-born Cuil Marvin daughter out of Seamore Nicole Kidman and in-calf to the imported French sire, Tibet. Consigned by 16-year-old Lewis Ralston, having been reserve junior female champion at the 2022 Royal Highland Show, it sold to Fiona and Colin Wright, Carwood.
Sharing the top female price of 5,000gns was the junior female champion, Rednock Ukraine from Gill and Malcolm Pye, Rednock Estate, Stirling, who donated all the proceeds to the Forth Valley Welcome Charity which supports refugees and children of Ukraine, with the Society also waiving all commission on the sale. The heifer had been reserve overall champion at this year's Great Yorkshire Show and reserve overall female at the Royal Highland Show. The buyer was H. Limond, Dromore.
Topping the two production drafts at 4,600gns were Messrs Boyd for the August 2021-born Baron daughter, Drumaglea Riff which sold to Messrs Maginn. The newly appointed Society President Andrew Sleigh, Tarves, paid 3,600gns for Drumaglea Rula, an Icare daughter in-calf to Baron. Females in the production sale for Rigel Pedigree, Yarm, were sold in pairs and topped at 2,750gns/head for Rigel Dazzle Poll by Lascaux and in-calf to Rigel Powerhouse Poll and Rigel Camilla Poll by Rigel Orlando Poll and in-calf to the same sire to EWG (Scotland), Hearthstanes Estate, Biggar.
Leading the commercial trade at £2,600 was A. R. Lee, Lumbylaw for three heifers in-calf to Bacardi P-Diddy which sold to G. Jones, Nebo, Conwy.
T Smith & Sons, Netherton, Whitehouse purchased the remaining Lumbylaw twelve in-calf heifers which were sold in lots of three at £2,450, £2,400, £2,250, and £1,900 each.
Leading the bulling heifers trade was Angus and Kerry Gowthorpe, York, who sold three bulling heifers at £2,000/head each to A. and J. Wright, Girvan,
Topping the heifer stirk section was the McClymont family, Cuil, who realised £1,600/head for four heifer stirks to R. Andrew, Meifod.
Averages - 2 pedigree bulling heifers, £3,937.50 (+£1,745.62 on 2022); 19 in-calf heifers, £2,829.98); 15 pedigree bulls, £4,732 (-£453.33); commercial females - 114 bulling heifers, £1,321.49 (-£34.26); 73 heifer stirks, £1,160.96 (+£162.98); 49 in-calf heifers, £2,6189.80 (+£416.41).
