Champion tops sale of spring lambs at Brock
At the ÍæÅ¼½ã½ã supported Easter show and sale at Brockholes Arms the spring lamb championship went to W.A. and L.M. Jenkinson, Pilling, with the winner of the continental sired class, a 38kg black Texel which went on to sell for £222/head (579p/kg) to the judge, Alfie Blacklidge, Wigan.
Messrs Jenkinson also had the reserve champion, the second prize winning continental sired, a 38kg lamb which made £212/head and the third prize winner, a 45kg lamb which made £222/head.
The winner of the young handler's class was Sam Webster, Ormskirk, whose 36kg lamb sold for £130/head.
J. Egglesden, Scarisbrick, had the winner of the native sired class with a 44kg Suffolk lamb which made £185.
Trade for spring lambs was buoyant with plenty of lambs 390-420p/kg, particularly 43-45kg lambs. The section averaged 408p/kg or £170/head.
Hoggs sold to 395p/kg for a 42kg Beltex from A. Armer, Out Rawcliffe, with A. Phoenix, Clifton, selling to 43kg hoggs to 391p/kg. Top price per head was £188 for 56kg hoggs from J. Harrison, Longridge.
Handy weight hoggs were 340-370kg but heavy hoggs more difficult to sell.
Cull ewes topped at £270/head for a trio of Beltex from A. Sharp and Son, Blackburn, and averaged £167.

Dairy champion sells at 7,000gns at Carlisle
The Border and Lakeland Holstein Club show and sale at Carlisle topped at 7,000gns for the pre-sale show champion, Overside Grayridge Dynasty Diamond by King-Ransom Dynasty from David and Callum Gray, East Kilbride. Having been second in the milking yearling class at Dairy Expo in March and a show winner in 2024, it sold to David Coulthurst, Preston.

Andrew and Debbie MacKellar, Staffordshire, consigned a group of show heifers from their Drointon herd which averaged £2,700 and topped at 3,600gns for Drointon Grayridge Chief Glamorous owned in partnership with Messrs Gray. The buyer was Messrs Weaver, Stone.
They also sold Oaksfield Drointon Grayridge Eye Candy Blexy for 3,500gns to Cherrytop Holsteins, Lancaster, and Drointon Chief Lana for 3,400gns to Messrs Jackson, Holywood.
The Logan family, Ayrshire sold eight high production heifers topping at 3,200gns for Holehouse Tropic Vicki bought by Messrs Somerville, Carrutherstown.
Averages: 7 cows in-milk, £2,835; 69 heifers in-milk, £2,642.50; 2 faulted/three-quartered heifers, £2,100; 1 in-calf heifer, £2,100; 1 heifer calf, £367.50; Drointon and friends - 10 heifer calves, £2,701.50; Deerslet - 37 heifer calves, £932.51.

Calf sells for record £1,000 at Gisburn
A new calf record of £1,000 was set at Gisburn for a two-month and 26-day-old British Blue bull calf by Cogent Kersay Kingpin from Jean Blezard of B.F. Blezard, Hothersall, who sold other calves to £970 and £940 twice.
A one-month 18-day-old British Blue bull from D. Calvert and Son, Skipton, made £965 with others from the same home at £925 and £920.
A month-old INRA 95 bull calf made £690 and Charolais topped at £820 for Robin Boothman, Fence, with Limousins to £750 for G.C.L. Stephenson, Kirkby Lonsdale.
Aberdeen-Angus bulls sold to £540 for M.D. Cornthwaite, Bolton by Bowland, Herefords to £610 for Messrs Dearnley, Huddersfield, and black and whites to £415 for D.A. Wilcock, Blackrod.
British Blue heifers topped at £740 for Messrs Calvert. Charolais sold to £850, Simmentals to £480, Limousins were all above £400 and Aberdeen-Angus heifers topped at £600.

Big entry and strong demand for dairy cattle at Exeter
At the sale of 228 dairy cattle at Exeter a consignment of 32 Friesian grazing type heifers sold from R.H. Waterworth, Peterborough, sold to £3,000 three times with 17 other heifers making between £2,900 and £2,950 to average £2,668.
Other fresh heifers sold to £2,950 and £2,900 Messrs Blackmore and Son, Honiton, and £2,900 twice for David Renfree and family, Liskeard.
S.J. Hockridge and Son, Bideford, sold two Holstein cows to £2,750 and £2,700 and two pedigree Brown Swiss cows to £2,100 apiece.
C.D.G. and E.M. Gooding and Son, Ottery St Mary, sold their first consignment of British Friesian cows to disperse their herd topping at £2,700.
Messrs Nicholls, South Molton, sold six pedigree Ayrshire cows and heifers to £2,200 to average £1,983.
M.A. and P.J. Blanch, West Sussex, sold 26 autumn calving Jersey, Guernsey and crossbred cows and heifers to 2,750gns to average £1,968.
British Friesian in-calf heifers topped at for Messrs Gooding who also sold bulling heifers to 1,120gns.
The Gold Top sale of 95 pedigree Jerseys peaked at 2,300gns for Oliver Neagle's Hiltonbury herd, Winchester, who averaged £1,884 of his consignment of 11.
Barry and Jenny Daw, Hertford, sold four fresh heifers from their Bluegrass herd to 2,000gns three times with Claire Daw selling a heifer from her Bluerock herd at 1,800gns. Their consignment averaged £2076.
A consignment of 32 pedigree Jersey autumn calving in-calf heifers from James and Louisa Edgar's Brastead herd, Kent, topped at 2,300gns to average £1,853.
Rivermead herd of the Davis family, Tiverton, sold served heifers to 1,100gns twice topping at 1,900gns for a January-born calf by Addiction with other calves to 1000gns and 800gns four times.
Richard Saxby and family, Tiverton, sold eight heifer calves from their Saxown herd topping at 1,000gns for a Victorious daughter from their Cash Family. David Renfree and family, Liskeard, sold seven heifer calves from their Hayvalley herd to 1,000gns twice.

Strong dairy trade at Holsworthy
Topping the Spring Challenge show and sale of dairy cattle at Holsworthy at £3,800 was the winning heifer and reserve champion, Winkleigh Rubels Lavender 3 from the Harris family, Winkleigh, who also sold other heifers to £3,650 with their consignment of seven averaging £3,320.
Martin and Di Webber, Drewsteignton, sold the second prize heifer, Oxenacres Wheelhouse Olivia at £3,700 with the Petherick family, Kilkhampton,topping at£3,400 for their heifer Aldercombe Welcome 136 yielding 44kgs.
Overall champion and winning cow was Wardada Razzy Carla a second calver yielding 45kgs from T. and J. Adams and Son, Torrington, which sold for £3,600, with second prize cow Winkleigh Sassafras Blackros also sellingfor £3,600 for the Harris family.
The Petherick family sold the third. prize cow, AldercombeRubi-HazeNatasha at £3,500 and second calver Aldercombe Wobbly 27 at £3,300.
In-calf heifers topped at £2,700 for Carsella Rudy Tessa 2 due in July from W.E. Nicholls and Co, Falmouth, whose consignment averaged, £2,450.
Bulling heifers topped at £1,280 for a group of six mainly British Friesian type heifers from D.P. and C.E. Martin, Bude.

Store cattle at Broughton
The show and sale of store cattle at Broughton topped at £1,805 for a British Blue steer from S.W. and A. Hoggarth, Ulpha.
All cattle were judged by Matthew Brown and son Harry, Bridlington, who awarded the championship to a British Blue Heifer from N. Cooper and Son, Broughton in Furness, which they later bought for the top heifer price of £1,800.
Reserve champion went to a Limousin steer from Anthony Hartley, Seathwaite, which the judges also bought for £1,755.
The top priced bull at £1,655 was the first prize bull, a Limousin from Messrs Hartley with the second prize winning bull from the same home at £1,565.
Averages: Bulls, £1,206.87; steers, £1,191.22; heifers, £1,064.16.

Dairies to £3,700 at Gisburn
An Aireburn heifer from G. B. Moorhouse, Bell Busk, topped Gisburn's dairy sale at £3,700.
The 33kg heifer by Fly-Higher Mellencamp was one of 10 which sold for more than £3,000.
Next at £3,600 was class winner, Fieldside Ethel 49, an Altaindigo daughter from H. and V. E. Jolly, Great Eccleston. They sold 10 fresh heifers to average £2,899 including Nortonhill R2 D2 sired Trudy 82 at £3,450 and Fieldside Juanita 7, another Altaindigo daughter, at £3,420.
In the non-pedigree section, the top price of £3,050 was for an unregistered daughter of Rubi-Agronaut from H. J. and K. Blackwell, Gargrave, which was bred in the Smellows herd of Messrs Taylor.
Pedigree cows reached £2,550 for a 46kg second calver by Stantons Adorable from J. and M. Singleton and Sons, Goosnargh.
In-calf heifers topped at £2,520 for one of seven in-calf to the Angus from R. A. Kirkham, Nateby, while A. R. and C. Parkinson, Chipping sold eight in-calf to the Holstein to £2,120.
Averages: Pedigree newly calved heifers, £2,640; non-pedigree newly calved heifers, £2,224; pedigree newly calved cows, £2,200; in-calf heifers £2,035.
